Pre-clinical mechanism

Acts as a substrate for glutathione peroxidases and S-transferases, and as a direct scavenger of reactive oxygen species. Cellular GSH:GSSG ratio is a major readout of oxidative stress in cell and animal studies.

Key pre-clinical findings

  • Comprehensive review of GSH redox biology and its role across tissue compartments (Lu, 2013).
