Glutathione

A tripeptide (γ-glutamyl-cysteinyl-glycine) and the most abundant intracellular thiol antioxidant, central to redox balance and phase-II detoxification.

Acts as a substrate for glutathione peroxidases and S-transferases, and as a direct scavenger of reactive oxygen species. Cellular GSH:GSSG ratio is a major readout of oxidative stress in cell and animal studies.
