Pre-clinical mechanism

Non-selective agonist at melanocortin receptors (MC1R–MC5R). Animal models report melanogenesis through MC1R and central effects on appetite and sexual arousal via MC3R/MC4R.

Key pre-clinical findings

  • Original melanocortin pharmacology in frog skin and rodent assays established MT-II as a long-acting, super-potent α-MSH analogue (Hadley et al., 1989).
