NR (Nicotinamide Riboside)

An NAD+ precursor entering the salvage pathway via NRK1/2, studied in pre-clinical and clinical NAD+ research.

Education Hub

Pre-clinical mechanism

Oral NR is phosphorylated to NMN by NRK enzymes and then converted to NAD+. Animal studies report increases in NAD+ across multiple tissues with associated mitochondrial-biogenesis markers.

Key pre-clinical findings

  • Healthy adults: oral NR raised whole-blood NAD+ in a dose-dependent fashion across an 8-week study (Trammell et al., 2016).
