Pre-clinical mechanism

Thymosin β-4 binds G-actin and modulates cytoskeletal dynamics, with downstream effects on cell migration, angiogenesis, and inflammatory cytokine expression in pre-clinical wound models. The N-terminal LKKTETQ fragment (TB-500) retains a portion of these activities in vitro.

Key pre-clinical findings

  • Cardiac infarct rodent model: reduced scar volume and improved ejection fraction in mouse MI studies (Bock-Marquette et al., 2004).
  • Dermal wound healing: faster re-epithelialisation in full-thickness rodent wounds (Malinda et al., 1999).
  • Corneal epithelial defect models: accelerated closure and reduced inflammatory infiltrate (Sosne et al., 2002).
