Pre-clinical mechanism
Single peptide with affinity for both the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and GLP-1 receptors. Pre-clinical models suggest additive effects on insulin secretion, body-weight regulation and lipid handling vs single-receptor agonists.
Key pre-clinical findings
- SURMOUNT-1 trial (adults with obesity, 72 weeks): up to -20.9% mean body weight change at the highest dose vs -3.1% with placebo (Jastreboff et al., 2022).
